According to the Human Trafficking Hotline, Florida ranks third in U.S. in human trafficking cases reported by states, behind only California and Texas. It is estimated by Florida Health that human trafficking in the U.S. is somewhere between 14,500 and 17,500 people annually.

As we approach the 2020 Superbowl we want to equip the industry on this serious topic. Hear from traveling pimp, Ruel Brown on how he utilized the hospitality industry to facilitate his human trafficking operation. You will also hear from Angela Thomas, a trafficking victim who was rescued and now using her story to educate industry members on how they can assist human trafficking victims.

In this training session you will learn:

  • How to Recognize Indicators of Human Trafficking
Learn the tactics of pimps pulled from real-life examples and visuals including how they use local hotels such as chain loyalty cards and bribing front desk staff.

  • What to do if you Identify a Human Trafficking Victim or Pimp
Learn how to respond if you identify a victim or pimp based on your roles, as different roles have unique reporting requirements and abilities; individuals include civilians, lodging staff, airport/airline employees and security.

  • What to do if you identify a human trafficking victim or pimp
Once a victim has been identified – learn how as an industry that if you have confirmation that a subject is a victim of human trafficking and is actively involved in a case, how you can assist with travel, lodging and other needs.

  • How to Help with trafficking investigations
Learn how pimps utilize a hotel chains to effect “interstate ecommerce” and establish a federal nexus. Also learn about the specific request from investigators for the hospitality/travel industry including folios/documents, DNR lists and more.

  • Understand an administrative perspective of trafficking
Learn how limiting lawsuits creating consistent annual training curriculum (FL Senate bill 540) to show employees have received proper training in the event an employee is caught assisting criminal activity, chooses to ignore clear indicators, or involves themselves in a way other than what your industry suggests; and causes an injury to themselves or others.
